Romon Yang, creative director of Yang Yu Hong, is a Chinese Australian designer and textiles artist based in Sydney, Australia. His practice explores the space between menswear and womenswear, drawing from postmodern ideologies, avantgarde design methods and the evolving language of neo-Chinese dress.

Yang Yu Hong seeks to continue the current conversation of textile sustainability while challenging traditional systems of gendered clothing. Through the use of pre-used garments, second hand materials and deadstock fabrics, the brand approaches sustainability not only as a method of production, but as a foundation for transformation.

The resulting works are usually 1 of 1 or limited series garments that reflect Romon’s personal sense of aesthetics, cultural heritage and ongoing interest in conceptual storytelling. Each piece carries traces of its former life, reworked into garments that exist between the past, the present and what is yet to come.
